What's the problem with motorbike tracking devices?
Quite simply, they normally use the wrong technology. GPS tracking systems have long been thought of to be not only the best, but many people think the only type of tracking available.
Why not GPS trackers?
These types of systems are great if you have a fleet of vans and want to see where they are on the motorway at a precise point in time, but for asset recovery (think getting it back in the event of theft) this technology doesn’t work.
The problems are really compounded for motorbikes where there are three problems, each one is a ‘show stopping’ issue in its own right.

A tracking systems that works indoors!

The main factor making GPS unsuitable for theft tracking is the fact it only works accurately outdoors with a clear line of sight to the sky. Thieves take advantage of this by taking stolen items indoors (typically metal industrial units or even shipping containers) and search for a tracking device at their leisure. With a motorbike, they are often stored indoors by their owners (such as in a garage). When they are stolen, they are put straight into a large van and transported to a metal industrial unit or lock-up. Not even taking into account the fact professional thieves can jam GPS signals, motorbike tracking systems are doomed to fail from the first without a valid tracking signal.
Hungry for power
Power for your motorbikes tracking system is a real problem, as anyone who has owned any form of security for their motorbike (from an alarm to tracking device) will know. Fail to ride it regularly and you might find yourself jump starting your pride and joy. These systems need lot’s of power, and your motorbikes little 12v battery is not up to the job.

AppelloGeo fits where others don't
As if the above wasn’t enough of a problem for a motorbike owner, there is one final sting in the tail - literally. Have you ever heard of an electronic motorbike security device of any sort being installed anywhere other than under the seat near the rear lights? Nor have I. And that is because of the limitations above. Remember:
1. The plastic cavity right behind the rear lights is just about the only place you put a GPS unit where it can still obtain a GPS signal.
2. It needs power. Those rear lights bulbs provide the source of power for your tracking device.
So, you don’t really have any choice about where you fit it. For a thief, checking for some form of asset recovery system on a motorbike is as simple as removing the seat and looking at the rear lights.
So what makes the AppelloGEO different?
The owner of Custodia Systems (who hold and operate the global license for the AppelloGEO Asset Recovery System) is a passionate biker and has had 3 stolen over the years. He invested in everything from tagging the bike, to chains, alarms and even GPS tracking devices. Not only did they fail to prevent the bike from being stolen (or help get it back), but they bought constant misery in the use of the motorbike with failing batteries and jump starts a regular feature of his life. What a waste of money.
The AppelloGEO addresses all of these problems and motorbikes have always been the market he wants the AppelloGEO in more than any other. It’s time to put the balance back in bikers favour!
Firstly, the AppelloGEO doesn’t use GPS. It’s a true motorbike asset recovery device that utilises powerful ground based radio signals to locate it. Even inside a garage, van or metal industrial unit; our investigators can still find your motorbike. This type of technology has been used by the Police for years on operations where they cannot afford to lose their target.
Secondly, it has it’s own long term power supply. The battery in an AppelloGEO will last at least 12 months, and usually longer (up to 18 months). After that, you simply re-charge it using the supplied wall charger and you’re good to go again.
Lastly, because we no longer have either of the restrictions above, you can hide it wherever you can find a suitable hiding area. Just don’t hide it next to the rear lights, we recommend you try and be inventive; the more time you take to hide it, the better the chance you will have of a successful recovery in the event of theft.
Custodia Systems also adds the personal touch. Included in your subscription is our Finder Service. In the event of theft, we send a professionally trained investigator (who is usually an ex-Police officer) to find your stolen bike for you. They bring a wealth of experience and get fantastic support from the Police - they make a real difference.
The AppelloGEO is available to purchase now from our shop, it is a Diamond Standard certified unit by Sold Secure. If you’ve made it this far in reading about tracking devices and asset recovery, chances are you have a serious interest in protecting your motorbike. Don’t walk away from a chance to truly secure your investment.
