One of our oldest West Yorkshire customers reported the theft of a Bomag 80 road roller the other week, it had been stolen from a compound on the outskirts of Pontefract,West Yorkshire, the favoured method is to put the roller into the back of a large van usually stolen and on false plates.
The van is then parked somewhere out of the way for a few days to "cool off" and allow the criminals to see if there is a tracker fitted to the stolen machine.
On this occasion the tracking unit didn't respond to us initially but we didn't have to wait too long as it woke up early in the evening having travelled south over 40 miles to the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire border near to Worksop.
Our investigator was on scene within 50minutes and tracking the machine which was located a short time later in a secure compound of a local transport company.
Derbyshire Police were contacted and officers were on scene within minutes, access was gained to the premises and the machine was identified and recovered.
The secure compound is covered by CCTV and Derbyshire Police have numerous enquiries to make.
There where a number of other plant machines on site and our investigator checked these using our contacts in the Plant and Agricultural National Intelligence Unit, one of which a Kubota mini digger was also identified as being stolen it was also recovered.

One of our customers had a 17m Tier 4 Telehandler stolen from our North Hampshire/ Surrey hotspot area a couple of weeks ago and unfortunately we had no contact from the tracking unit. A week went by and out of the blue the unit suddenly started talking to us and it updated its location to Western Poland and it was on the move heading Eastwards.
